Maker's Lab

Students take on practical design challenges and create working prototypes in English. Each task moves through imagining, building, testing, improving and sharing, so every child can explain what they made.

Every term is mapped to clear, confidence-building milestones, in groups small enough that each child is seen.

Sample activities

  • Marble Run Engineers

    Design a run that keeps a marble moving for as long as possible.

  • Bridge Challenge

    Build the strongest bridge from paper and tape, then load-test it.

  • Balloon Racers

    Build a balloon-powered car and race it for distance.

  • Lift It!

    Use levers and pulleys to raise a load with less effort.

Levels

  • Beginner Guided builds with step-by-step support.
  • Intermediate Open challenges, with planning and testing done in teams.
  • Advanced Self-directed projects, from children's own designs to final prototype.
  • Placed by the teacher after the trial lesson.

    Your child joins the regular group. There is no commitment to carry on afterwards.
