Weekend Activities for Kids in Shinagawa: Explore These Six Clubs

Weekends give children a chance to explore interests beyond their regular school routine. From creative projects and technology to performing arts and movement, different activities allow children to discover new interests while learning through experience.

For parents looking for weekend activities for kids in Shinagawa, these are the activities that can make Saturdays more engaging and meaningful.

1. Language and Creative Activities

Stories, games and conversations give children opportunities to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Creative activities also encourage children to express their thoughts and share ideas.

For example, the Cambridge Literacy Club explores language through stories, games and conversation. Children can also explore creativity through Cambridge Minecraft, where they build and plan their own worlds using Minecraft Education.

2. Coding, Robotics and Technology

Technology-based activities give children opportunities to build, experiment and explore how things work. Coding and robotics introduce practical challenges that involve planning and problem-solving.

In the Robotics & Coding Club, children build robots, learn coding and work towards a final mission challenge. These experiences bring technology and hands-on learning together.

3. Research and Problem-Solving Activities

Exploring real-world problems encourages children to investigate questions, gather information and consider different solutions. It also gives them opportunities to organise their thoughts and communicate their findings.

The Case Studies Lab follows this approach by giving children real-world problems to research before presenting their solutions.

4. Theatre and Communication Activities

Children can express themselves in many ways beyond writing and everyday conversation. Theatre, improvisation and podcasting offer opportunities to explore ideas, create performances and communicate with others.

Through On Air & On Stage, children explore theatre, improv and podcasting, with opportunities to perform live and produce their own shows.

5. Dance and Movement Activities

An active weekend can include more than outdoor play. Dance, fitness games and movement-based activities give children different ways to enjoy physical activity.

The Dance & Movement Club brings together K-pop dance, fitness games, yoga and mindfulness in the gym.

Making Weekends Meaningful

Children have different interests and ways of exploring the world. Giving them opportunities to create, investigate, perform and move can make weekends a valuable part of their learning experiences.

Whether through creative activities, technology, problem-solving or physical movement, Saturdays can be a chance for children to try something new and discover what they enjoy.

Weekend Activities for Kids in Shinagawa at SIS Saturday Clubs

All six clubs above run together as SIS Saturday Clubs at Shinagawa International School in Samezu, every Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, for children aged 5 to 14. Because the clubs share the same Saturday morning, each child joins one club, which gives them a full morning to settle into a single activity and go deeper with it.

Each club has its own teacher, age range and level, and every session follows a clear plan: a short warm-up, time to build, practise or research, and a moment at the end to share what was made or learned. Children work in English throughout, so the weekend also becomes a natural chance to read, speak and listen in a second language without it feeling like extra study.

When choosing between weekend activities for kids in Shinagawa, it helps to start with what your child already enjoys. A child who loves stories may enjoy the literacy club, while a builder may prefer Minecraft or robotics. A curious, talkative child may thrive in case studies or on stage, and an active child may enjoy dance and movement. If you are unsure, ask your child which activity they would pick, and let their interest lead.
